Trump Island in the San Juan Island chain is for sale. The whole island — all 29 acres of it near Lopez and Decatur — is listed for $7.75 million.
Windermere broker Leigh Zwicker, who has the listing, does not know the history of the name, but says it is not named after the presidential hopeful Donald Trump. She did, however, send that Trump information about the island. She has not yet heard back from him. Four other possible out-of-town buyers are interested at this time.
The island is currently owned by the owner of a successful international real estate brokerage, who has moved to Anacortes. The estate is totally self sustained. The more than 7,000 square foot modern home was designed by Seattle architect Rees Hudacek in 2000. You can get there by boat, seaplane or the water taxi from Anacortes. On the island, the main mode of transportation is golf carts. “It is a masterpiece,” says Zwicker, because of the owner’s forethought in developing this private estate.
“The central heart of the home is a big living room, dining room, game room, great room area.” The rest of the six-bedroom home is dedicated to various wings, including one for children, another for guests, another for the master suite area and another for kitchen and laundry. “Every room has a big sliding window that opens to an outside patio. Patios are all around the house,” says Zwicker. The area around the home is beautifully landscaped with rose gardens, vegetable gardens and fruit trees. There is a whole deep-water docking system and a seaplane area as well, as the owner was a pilot. The dock itself is 60 feet by 80 feet. The home has several fireplaces, a wine cellar and central heat. Water is collected from rainwater and purified and stored in holding tanks, and there is a sea-water conversion system as well, so drinking water and other water is unlimited.
Zwicker says electricity is generated from two 5,000 watt generators, run by giant submarine batteries which power the house, and so there are no power outages. There’s a caretaker’s home, a greenhouse, chicken coop and an emergency helipad just in case The whole island, 4,230 feet around, is waterfront for this home and there are several sandy beaches on the waterfront as well. It had been listed for $8.75 million. The current lowered price includes most all of the furnishings in the home.
